I have been designating the Russian Patent Office as the search authorities for my client's PCT filings. Unlike KIPO, who provides mainly US prior art in the International Search Report, the RPO provides some Soviet Union references (Yes, that Soviet Union), and these can be hard to find.

At our business we were recently reading a document that referred to a Russian Patent from 45 years ago. The patent referred to appeared to contain an interesting set of information for us to review further, so I had the assignment to obtain a copy if I could. I embarked in trying to find the patent, but didn't have any luck through the channels I normally use. If I had found it, the challenge would have likely remained in obtaining it in a language I would understand. I was about to give up on this search when I came across the website for Patents from RU. I sent an email as invited on the website, and received a quick response. The translation arrangements, associated fees, and any answers to my questions were promptly provided.
Upon my decision to request a copy of the patent and its translation, I received the patent the next morning, and the translation early the following day. The billing process was convenient and secure, and payment was only requested after the delivery of the patent. From start to finish, it took about 39 hours at a low cost, and I greatly appreciate the help I received. When I have a similar need again, I will certainly seek their service. Even if I could find the patent elsewhere, the characteristics of prompt delivery and translation services at a very low expense would be of great value and would lead me back to the same source. I have been trying to find copies of two Soviet Union patents of my dad's inventions for a long time to no avail. I was almost certain that I will never be able to do this. However, while googling words "soviet patents", I came across the website of "Patents from RU". "Patents from RU" could locate my dad's patents the same day and the next day I already had electronic copies on my computer.
